Overview

Untabbed is a receipt-splitting app that helps you divide bills with friends. Your privacy matters to us, and we’ve designed Untabbed to collect as little data as possible.

What Data We Collect and How We Collect It

Receipt Images: When you scan a receipt, Untabbed captures or imports the receipt image from your device’s camera or photo library. This image is sent over an encrypted connection to Google’s Gemini API solely for the purpose of extracting text (item names and prices) from the receipt. The image is processed in real-time and is not stored by Untabbed — we do not operate any servers. After text extraction is complete, the image is not retained by Untabbed or transmitted again.

Split History: Your past splits (item names, prices, participant names you enter, and calculated amounts) are stored locally on your device using on-device storage. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to us or any third party.

Purchases: In-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or have access to your payment information.

How We Use Your Data

Receipt images are used exclusively to extract line items and prices via Google’s Gemini API so you can split the bill. They are not used for any other purpose.
Split history is stored on your device so you can review past splits. It is never transmitted externally.
Purchase data is managed by Apple and used solely to unlock app features.

The only third party that receives any user data is Google, through its Gemini API. Specifically:

What is shared: Receipt images (JPEG) and the app’s bundle identifier.
Why it is shared: To perform text extraction (OCR) on the receipt image.
How it is shared: Over an encrypted HTTPS connection directly from your device to Google’s servers.
Google’s protections: Google processes API data in accordance with the Google API Services User Data Policy and Google’s Privacy Policy. Google does not use data submitted via the Gemini API to train its models.

We do not sell, rent, or otherwise share your data with any other third parties. No analytics, advertising, or tracking services are used.

Before your first receipt scan, Untabbed displays a consent prompt explaining that your receipt image will be sent to Google Gemini for text recognition. You must agree before any data is transmitted.

What We Don’t Collect

No account creation or login required
No names, emails, or personal identifiers (beyond participant names you voluntarily enter for splitting)
No analytics or tracking SDKs
No advertising
No location data
No contacts or address book access

Data Retention

All split data is stored locally on your device. Deleting the app removes all stored data. Receipt images are not persisted by Untabbed after scanning.

Children’s Privacy

Untabbed does not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected with an updated date at the top of this page.
